about

4th May 2020

I’ve started to write songs again, after nearly 10 years of writers block.

During the UK government imposed lockdown, thanks to Covid-19, I managed to finish 5 songs before the creative process led me to this one, ‘My Australian Days’. This is only a ‘Demo’, recorded on my iPad using GarageBand (after a few cans of cider), but I’m really happy with it. It sounds great in the car (“I was out on essential shopping duties officer”).

The song is inspired by my time living in Australia (2008 - 2013) where I made best friends and had some of the best times of my life. I miss it everyday. For a long time I couldn’t listen to songs by Australian bands, look at photos of my time living there or even watch Neighbours (struth!), as I got so sad. Sometime later I learned that we don’t just grieve for people...

lyrics

My Australian Days.

I can still smell the Jacaranda trees
I can still hear the Jumbo Jets roar
I can still feel the heat on the back of my neck
I could easily find my way back to Enmore

I’ve had a good time for the first time in a long time
I’ve got a lot to be thankful for
But if you ask me again I’d go back to my friends
Drinking cold beer in the sun in Stanmore

Morning coffee made by Eloise
After late night drinks at the Town Hall
The Kookaburras used to laugh at all my jokes
How I wish I could go back for the encore

I’ve had a good time for the first time in a long time
I’ve got a lot to be thankful for
But if you ask me again I’d go back to my friends
Drinking cold beer in the sun in Stanmore

The Doctor said I was grieving
At first I didn’t believe him
But since that day
I let you fade away
I’ll never forget my Australian days

I’ve had a good time for the first time in a long time
I’ve got a lot to be thankful for
But if you ask me again I’d go back to my friends
Drinking cold beer in the sun in Stanmore
I’ve had a good time for the first time in a long time
I’ve got a lot to be thankful for
But if you ask me again I’d go back to my friends
Drinking cold beer in the sun in Stanmore
